My work mainly focuses on creating environments and imagery using 3D rendering software and animation techniques. My main project, Smile You’re on Camera took the form of an immersive digital experience exploring issues of surveillance capitalism. I drew on the work of Dr Shoshana Zuboff, who argues that capitalism has always functioned in the same way: Taking things that are not part of the marketplace and commodifying them. Whether this be a forest, the side of a mountain or in the case of ‘surveillance capitalism’ the private human experience. This is typically an invisible problem; my work visualises what it could look like if we were able to see the tools used to monitor us.
